Meet the Team

The members of this team will be coming together from 8 different countries to work on a Habitat for Humanity house in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Members range in age from 19 to 75; some participants have been very involved with Habitat locally and/or have been on other Global Village trips before, whereas for others, this will be the first time volunteering with Habitat!

Jess Wilson
Be’er Sheva, Israel
Jess is the team leader for this trip, and is thrilled to have assembled such a diverse team! Jess was born in the US, but has also lived in Thailand, Uganda, and Guyana, and currently makes her home in Israel, where she studies medicine at the Medical School for International Health. Though still officially undecided, she is leaning toward becoming a surgeon. She has played the flute since she was 11 years old, so much of her free time outside of school is devoted to music- and Habitat for Humanity, of course! Jess has been with Habitat since 2002 and, after leading many work trips throughout the US, is excited to finally lead a Global Village trip!

Charles B. Davison

This is my first trip to Cambodia but not to Southeast Asia: I visited Thailand about 20 years ago.  I am a criminal defence lawyer in Edmonton, and father to one son.  I began volunteering for Habitat for Humanity locally about two years ago.  In July 2010 I took part in a Global Village project in Dessie, Ethiopia (through H4H Canada).  I have also done volunteer work in Lima, Peru (2007) and in Pommern, Tanzania (2008) and have made some great and lasting friendships each time I have been involved in trips like this.

Patrick Markle
San Francisco, California, USA
Patrick will be starting a new job upon his return from Cambodia.  Stay tuned for details. More importantly, Patrick is married to Cory Powers and they have two amazing daughters – Charlotte and Aldyn.   The whole family is supportive of this service trip with Habitat for Humanity because it is something that Patrick has wanted to do for quite some time.  He is, however, under extreme obligation to bring home gifts. Patrick has worked in the theatre industry all of his professional life and in particular in production.  He enjoys building things and looks forward to helping to build something that will last longer that a “three-month run.”  His other interests are motorcycle riding, circus, reading, martial arts, Asian culture and his dog – Chester. Patrick is really looking forward to this trip and to meeting his fellow team members.

Thomas Damsgaard
Houston, Texas, USA
I was born and grew up in Denmark, attended High School in Washington State in the 80ties and moved permanently from Denmark to Texas in 1992. I have been an executive and ship-owner in a global shipping organization, but recently I retired myself mid-career(42 years old) allowing time to stop and smell the roses and give back. During a sabbatical in 2002/03 I was a core volunteer on a Habitat build in Dallas and just this year I did a Global Village build in Sri Lanka. I am looking forward to do this build with my better half, Lisa Matocha and to share the gratifying experience of making a difference in some well deserving but less fortunate families with y’all.

.

Lisa Matocha
Houston, Texas, USA
Born and raised in the great state of TEXAS. I have lived in Houston most of my life. I should be fine in the heat of Cambodia with the 102 degree summers we have here. I am a single mom of two wonderful children that are 11 and 13. We have a lot of fun out doors. When I am not working, I am training for a triathlon. I have an AED sales and Medical Emergency Training Company. I got inspired to volunteer for this project by my boyfriend, Thomas Damsgaard, who traveled to Sri Lanka in February. He was so moved and his pictures of the joy in the families faces touched me so much. I feel so blessed in my life with a great family, health and love, that I want to give back to the world. I want to be a good example to my children.
